  • Dumb Question

Just a dumb question for anyone with factory gold steelies. Was messing around with my 90 today, and the front wheels are gold. Noticed a little square piece right at the valve stem. It appears to be to hold the trim rings on. Or, at least that's my best guess. Never seen this little square piece on any of my other steelies. Were the gold wheels originally the only ones that came with trim rings, or am I missing something.

I tried to take a pic of it, but the wheels are so dirty, and the valve stem pretty much covers the square no matter which way I tried to take the pic.

I know, dumb question for someone who has had Festivas since '98. Just never seen gold steelies before.

My steelies have the square you are talking about, not sure what it's for, but my wheels are factory silver steelies. And yes gold steelies were factory.

My first festiva had standard steelies and came with trim rings.

^^ Yep, that would be it. They're only on the two gold wheels, not on the other two, and not on the wheels for the 89. Nor were they on Batstiva's original wheels.

most steel wheels have that, I'm pretty sure its for balancing purposes, to make up for the valve stem hole.

^^ Those were actually not Batstiva's original wheels, but I don't think they have them either. Am I correct?

resuwrecked, the steelies on my 89 don't have them, nor do the other two rims on my 90.

Those little squares are there to keep the OE trim rings from rotating and cutting the valve stems.

I think you solved the mystery, I went out and looked at the one and only trim ring I have and placed it on the wheel and the trim ring has a cut out for it and it lines up perfectly.
