1988 Festiva Tire pressure?

I run mine at 40psi with no issues. I remember reading on one of the hyper-miler sites that one of the reasons most sidewalls spec 36psi is due to NHV - Noise/Harshness/Vibration. A tire with higher pressure will exhibit more of this and the general public will sacrifice a few mpg's for comfort.

same here never had an issueOriginally posted by Pu241 View PostActually, if they say 44 PSI I run about 42 PSI.
Helps with MPG, but it is rough if you have to run on crappy PA roads.
Never had issues with center wear.
Its always with the out or inner edges, tye rods or balljoints.

Mine (155/80-12) hold 44 PSI max and that's what I run in them.
Tire wear, so far is normal.
The ride is a little stiff, but gas mileage is excellent.

^it will be more prevailent on wider tires, but it's still an issue with radials.

I think I read that this isnt as much of a problem on a modern radial tire as an old bias ply tire. I personally havent had this problem.Originally posted by FestYboy View Postover inflating a tire causes excessive center tread wear, and reduces grip (smaller contact patch).

the listed tire presure on the side wall of any tire is the MAXIMUM cold pressure at maximum load. typically a 12" tire is rated at just over 1000lB at 35psi (except in the case of Kuhmo where it's 44 IIRC) anyway, that one tire is good to hold half a Festy all by itself, and you have 4 of them meaning that each tire is working at half capacity. so with this information, you can gather that a tire, if inflated to its maximim limit at half it's rated load, will be OVER INFLATED. over inflating a tire causes excessive center tread wear, and reduces grip (smaller contact patch).Originally posted by drddan View PostLook at the tires. The air pressure is listed on the tire. Run it at pressure listed. I run mine at 35 lbs(a couple pounds over)
!
in short, don't follow the numbers on the tire, go with the tag on our car. if you want a little extra milage from a tank, add another 2-3psi and that's it...

I run 40+PSI in all my tires without problems. It helps quite a bit with MPG's

I run at least sidewall pressure. I'm a mileage freak though so the firmer the tire the better.

^^ 44 psi?? Wonder how much blood you end up peeing out running 44 psi on these roads around here.

Welcome to the site.:hello2: I think you may have the longest screen name on here:p I would say 32-35 should be alright, my tires say 44 max on the side.
