  • makes me wonder..

    any one who saw the first fast and furious, where brian had a laptop hooked up would understand what im going after here

    any one happen to know of a way to get the gauge info from am 88 onto the laptop? ive got usb 1.0, serial, LPT printer, and an real old printer port on this old laptop i have sitting around collecting dust. tried to do some research that didnt involve a lot of money (im not looking for something serious, just me being a computer guy and tinkering around a bit) maybe a DIY project involving radio shack components or something..

    in the movie he would have had a standalone engine managment set-up in order to have gauges on a laptop like that

    1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
    1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
    2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor

    1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

    If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

                  edit:
                  car got home, a second ago, as i race out side to check under hood, and under whole dash and find... no odb connector. there is a 1 pin error code retreival system by the brake booster though. supposed to ground it to the chassis i beleive

                    Sorry about that. I thought the 88-89 had a computer also. Wasn't sure since mine is a 90.

                      called that website today, they said the (didnt catch the name of it) port was small market and the only people that can do anything with it are dealers. so i guess obd caught on real fast and killed this port out. they dont have any products for it. but you guys with OBD can do what i wanted to do..

                        GM test connector = ALDL Assembly Line Diagnostic Link. Used from '82 to '95
                        Ford = VIP Test Connector

                        GMs offered streaming data beginning in the late 80's, Ford in 1990.

                        FnF is a bunch of horse-poo. One response had it correct; to see streaming data and change maps, you would need to have an aftermarket engine management PCM, then a laptop would connect to that.

                        Carbed Festies do have a PCM, but its very crude. Neither the carbed or EFI PCMs have data stream capability, only trouble code output.
