  • Fuel injection system achieves 64 mpg

Transonic Combustion has developed a fuel-injection system it says can improve the efficiency of gasoline engines by more than 50 percent. A test vehicle equipped with the technology gets 64 miles per gallon in highway driving, which is far better than more costly gas-electric hybrids, such as the Prius, which gets 48 miles per gallon on the highway.

hmmm looks like a modified diesel injector/piston set to run on gasoline. why not just use diesel fuel and take advantage of it's higher BTU count?

          Do it yourself

The web site seems very vague and uninformative... Looks more like a page to excite potential investors and inform the world of their great innovation without actually explaining what they're developing!

I built a MegaSquirt from a kit ($185) and installed it in my 95 BMW 318ti about 2 years ago. Set it up for fuel and spark control and I love it! I was able to drive the 400 mile trip to my grandparents house in Eastern PA on one tank of gas for the first time ever and with another 50 miles to spare.

I set it up to run 15.2 to 1 AFR on the highway and achieve about 36mpg (about 20% better than stock). Plus, the EFI is tuned to be far more responsive and fun to drive around town! I have had zero problems with the MegaSquirt and would highly recommend it and the guys at DIY Autotune (no affiliation, just a happy customer).

I'm looking forward to installing one in my Festy and expect to achieve high 50's MPGs.

          Cheers!

you'll need a sequential setup to get those numbers and better injectors.

Didn't Smokey Yunick develop something similar in the 80's using a " vapor carb" setup?
