  • Should I or shouldn't I? to buy or not to buy...

Would you buy a Festiva w/out knowing if it ran or not? I've been offered a '93 Festiva GL that was purchased with the intent of turning into a parts car. Now, the seller wants to sell it whole instead.
Asking price: $400 (non-negotiable at this point)

    Needs:
Windshield (shattered on the driver side, no getting around a replacement), tail light (driver side rear cover has a golfball size hole in it), battery and battery cables (cables have been cut off (don't know if a new connectors willl reach the terminals or not), rear wiper is missing, radio gone (no prob though, I have one)

    Has:
    5 spd
Ac compressor, but it is missing a tension pully
    alloy rims and alloy spare
    clean title
    Seats in decent shape
    power belts

    Body:
Hood paint has faded out and has clear coat damage
    dent on driver side fender
small damaged area on right front bumper near the bottom
    paint semi-faded on roof
rear bumper has damaged area on the driver side near the bottom
then the usual dings for age...

Don't know if the car is running at all. Motor may work, may not.... Don'dt know if anything works to be honest...

Should I buy this car? I'm lost.... Dean was my go to guy about these situations... Now I don't know...

I gotta make up my mind soon before someone else snatches it up.

I would say buy it. At least for $400 dollars if it doesn't run you could use it as a candidate for a swap.

1993 Festiva L, aspire swapped, selling parts for a BP+T build.

Get it. It's a GL and we've been paying $300 for cars with less trim and that we know have blown motors. Heck, if you don't get it let me know and I'll take it

Even if the motor is gone I have an extra Aspire motor I can drop in it.

Someone else suggested $200 since the mechanical condition is unknown. The guy said he paid $400 for it and just wants him money back out of it.

Offer him $200 and see if he'll bite. You can always go up if you want

I'm with them, take 400 with you. Offer 300 and show him the bills. If he says no start walking away. He may bend. If not I will give him 400 for it if Zanzer decides he doesn't want it.
