  • cross country festy

Ok, so i'm looking to a buy a festy soon and this summer i graduate college (FINALLY lol)
and I plan a long road trip out west. I live in Iowa and maybe all the way to Oregon to see this great country of ours (sorry Canada peeps lol). I want to know what maintenance items I should address before taking a festy that far. I know the regular (belts, oil, plugs, etc.) but anything like wheel bearings and what not that you festy professionals would think I need done to put a few thousand miles on a festy in a short time period.

I would be sure to grease the bearings if they have not been done in the past year.Check the brake system, also the steering system.

My '88 has been across country twice in the last 4 years, and never any trouble.
I would make sure you have a good timing belt, and check the rear spindles. Actually, if anything is at all questionable, replace it. And of course take lots of tools with you. Join AAA!
If it has boobs or wheels, sooner or later you're going to have trouble with it.

Check the driver side front bearing. Make sure it's good.
