  • Tranny Fluid

My friend and I are working on a festiva and the car has no manual so I was wondering how much tranny fluid goes into a 1991 festiva 5spd? thanks

pull the speedo sensor out and fill it up till it runs out. it should be just under 3 quarts.

        i dont agree with that.

the speedo gear has a marking on one side of it, if you look closely. fill it to the top of that marking. dont just fill it till its full.

i'd think you'd end up blowing a seal, too much pressure... like with oil

Too much oil = burnt transmission due to over heating

Personally I would rather run slightly LESS fluid in a trans than too much. AS long was the gears are pulling oil from the bottom and disty'ing all around the case (it would have to be VERY low not to) nothing is being harmed. Too much oil on the other hand does build up pressure and blow seals.

Back when I was dumb (like yesterday ) My dad welded up a cracked oil pan on my old Honda civic. He wasn't home when I fetched it, didn't realize he replaced the oil, so I added approx. 4 more quarts...the engine was toast by the weekend.

Now THAT'S dumb, but I was only a kid...

                  FX
                  Because....45 MPG.
