  • I have Festivas again.....

Well I have been on the hunt for a Festiva for quite some time (2004). Certain circumstances have not let me come to own one until last week. I posted an add on craigslist wanting to buy a Festiva. I got an email from a gentleman who was about 20 miles from where I live. So in the car we go to look at it. It blew a headgasket and a limb fell on it a couple weeks prior to my add. Im thinking the worst like the roof is caved in and figured it would be in horrible shape.

We get there and I start looking it over. The car is a 92 L and to my suprise the hatch took the most of the damage and a few little gouges in the roof from said limb. Other than the interior being a little beat up the rest of the car is in really good shape. I promptly called the guy and asked what he wanted for it. I offered his wife 50 dollars and she said I would have to talk to him. I talk to him for several minutes and he stated that he would take 100 cash for the car. I offered him a trade for a pistol I had bought years ago and have not touched since than. He was interested so I figured if he could source a trailer so I could get it home it was a deal.

Got it home last week and have started work on it. The hatch is off, engine and trans are out (trans suffered a crack as one of the axles would not come out). Got all the glass out of the interior from the broken back glass and beat out the majority of the dents in it.

    Festiva number 2......

This past weekend I was helping a friend do some work on his house and we were on our way to go get lunch. Usually the only time I am in this part of my area when I go to his house or am doing some volunteer work with the Special Olympics. Not even 2 miles from his house is a blue looks to be later model festiva. On the way back I ask him to stop so I can peak it over. It was in really good shape so I left a note under the wiper arm and was hoping to hear back from the owner.

Monday I get a call its the owner of the Blue Festiva. WHOOO HOOO. The car has to be gone NLT Friday he says and he starts in on what I want the car for and yada yada. I told him it was an addiction that nobody could possibly understand unless they have driven one. He said it was his sons car and he never drove it. He says he has to have 275 for the car and it was running and driving until his son broke the key off in the ignition somehow. I guess his son screwed up things even worse by trying to do a hack job on the wiring. I didnt notice anything torn apart when I looked at it.

Today I go to pick up the Blue car and I have pulled the whole steering column out of my Green L in prep to change it in the parking lot so I can drive off with it. My friend thinks im an idiot for wanting to fix it and drive it home and says we need to tow it with his truck. I would feel much better about driving the car home than towing it. Its a satisfaction thing and kind of makes the previous owner feel a bit silly when he sees a car he just sold for 275 drive off in the warm evening breeze.

Well figured I would tell a little story about how I have come to own Festiva #3 and #4 and how excited I am to be back in the game. I know this thread is useless without pics so they will be going up as soon as I get home.

Thanks and happy Festiva-ing lol, Jeremiah.

Sounds like you got some good deals. I hope you are able to fix the ignition on the spot and drive it home.

Well I show up with parts in hand and started in on it. Ended up being another fuel injected car SCORE!!! Still dont know what year it is lol. 151k miles on it. I open the door and pop the hood and OH MY GOD!!!! Ghetto rigged wiring..... Wiring is one of my pet pieves. I rewire a lot of avionics stuff that has very tight tolerances so I am really good at it and hate it doing it lol. Anyways the key was broke off in the ignition so the owner tried to rig up some kind of push button start. In the process jacked up the solenoid wire and some how broke the neutral safety switch.

Ok so now to start the work. i pull all the crap out of it. Wrap the wire around the solenoid spade. Replace the torn all to hell ignition switch with the one off of my column. And jump the battery to my Yukon. Hit the key and nothing??? WTF. The dash lights are on why isnt it turning over? So I go back down check my wiring and notice something hanging under the dash its whats left of the safety switch. Jump it try again and CLICK!!! No lights What gives?? Go out check connections. Battery is corroded to hell pop the terminals loose poor coke on it wiggle the fusible links. Try again.........Vroom. Cranked right up was clacking and making all kinds of noises. Top off the oil and try it again. Same thing but quiets right down. Let it idle a while and than drove off.

OH NO!!! The drivers rear brake is stuck lol. Rocked it back and forth a few times nothing. Crap!!! Start taking the wheel off and than was gonna back it up a little to get on concrete to jack it up and tear the drum off. No need it popped free. Got out tightened the lugs and drove home. Did great all the way home no issues other than the big rubber bushing for the shifter is completely destroyed so the shifter rattles and clangs like an Aspire Exhaust heatshield.

Cannot wait to get started on this one. Needs a battery and some very harsh cleaning inside. Best of all I drove off with it for 250 dollars. WOOT!!!!

Happy Festiva-ing folks im off to bed, Jeremiah.

The tag on the inside of the driver side door has the production date.

Good to hear you were able to fix it and drive it home.

Oh I know I have the title just too lazy to look at it. Oh and I forgot to add that this could not have been possible without the love and support of my Wife Leanne, Daughter Eternity and my Son Gavin. They have been very patient with me when I go to pick these things up.

THANKS GUYS IT MEANS A LOT TO ME.

                Till next time folks, Jeremiah.

To start and drive a car away from the seller when he said it NEEDS to be towed...always priceless.

I don't have the guts to do that. I know I could have fixed mine in his yard but i played dumb and got it for $300.

Ok. I'm now mad. This man finds 2 festivas in as many weeks less than 30 miles from my house and one of them are from a guy I work with...

Just kidding. If you need any help or want to jying just let me know. We need to get together for that mini "meat" and you can meet my son Gavin.

LOL remember there is still a Festiva and Aspire to add to the list here shortly... Got the blue car a battery and drove it back to work on my lunch break. Sprayed it off at the car wash too. Looks a lot better.

Dude that is crazy both our sons have the same name. WEIRD LOL....
