i have read many times over the towel or seatbelt trick for removing the crank from the panel. well, i have a tip to put it back on. it may be old news, but i had never read how to reassemble.
i had put a better door on my car. the lock did not match and the panel was jacked. so, i got everything off as normal. after a few attempts to align the new glass with the old felt, i nailed it. when i got the panel all buttoned up, i had a choice on trying something or struggling to get the clip on.
i studied the taper of the crank teeth and tried putting the clip on the handle before putting it on. placed the plastic spacer/washer and slid the handle until i felt resistance. then just bumped it with the palm of my hand and it just popped into place. i did not have to struggle with putting the clip on at all. it was super easy.
my apologies if you all know that already, but it worked for me.
