  • Why not to have a turboed Festy

If you have a turboed Festiva, and have done a mileage run showing it to get 40 MPG, you may be lulled into a false sense of security that it will always get this kind of mileage. Then when you really stick your foot into the fun pedal, you will be having so much fun that you may well forget to glance at the gas gauge. Thus you will not notice that your little car has suddenly gotten a lot thirstier. This could cause you to run out of gas at an inopportune time (not that there is an opportune time), causing you stress and to be late for something.

This happened to me today, but luckily I ran out of gas about 1 block from a gas station, and they had a gas can they loaned me. So it turned out to be a minor inconvenience.

Not a bad idea. I've seen it done on a few Volkswagens for biofuels and waste veggie oil, so it could totally work well for extra gas purposes. The extra weight can be offset by 1LB of boost.

Right, I'll be able to coast up to the gas station at a higher rate of speed.

This is why i don't plan on modding the engine in my car. If anything i'm gonna do suspension and make it handle, and maybe do a 5 speed swap and leave it at that. I bought it for the sole purpose of good gas mileage and reliability, and those words don't usually go hand in hand with turbo.

By the way, ^^^ That's 99.9% city driving

I get mid 30's on the highway with mine. With the a/c going 8) . Mid 20's around town. Can't wait to get this megasquirt going...1 map for economy and 1 map for boost. It'll be nice. Tom said he's getting 40 mpgs being easy. And these things are reliable if built right. And tuned conservatively ( Tom's not a "racer")
