That's the exact car my beloved Carbie is (was) still is, though now living a hard life with a buddy who has an uncanny ability to run things into the ground in no time. Carbed festys are fine when they run right (which is usually the case) throw a 5-spd in it while you're bringing her up to snuff and you'll get 40-48MPG all day long.

I paid $150 for mine in Idaho with 120K on it...no paperwork (VIN swap, problem solved) and NEVER let me down. One timing belt, one water pump and some front struts in 3 years. I towed other festivas across country with her. 220K now on orignal clutch even!

Go to love it!!! Best thing i ever did was get my little baby! Paid $100 for my 1990, needed a new rear whee lbearing, buddy had a scrap car removal business.

Glad to see you got one! Welcome to the club!

thinking of going ahead and trying to fix this motor to be able to drive it. my lifted bronco doesnt get that great of mileage, and this way i can mess with it and still be able to drive it.

it was hard enough to find this one for cheap,so i just jumped on it. its a 89 l model, has the hockey stripe but its faded out,a/c isnt hooked up,shifter seems to have wayyyy to much play. gotta get under it and check it all out.

Your shifter bushings are shot. Find an Aspire and grab its bushings, I have yet to find one with bad bushings.

Replacement is a very simple job, just unbolt the linkage at the transmission and replace the bushings.

Good luck with it. Carbies arent the best for doing swaps if thats what you have in mind.
