  • i love junkyards

Well I love and hate them,

I took my fiance, yes my fiance to Pick A Part, in elmira NY yesturday because I was trying to find a fuel pump for my festiva, a spare tire for my aspire swap, an antenna rod for her 98 grand am, and maybe some extra tires for her car.

    I found:

    The antenna rod,
2 brand new snow tires mounted on 95 grand am rims (should fit)
A brand new looking kia snow tire, but the rim didnt match
A perfect rust free rim in the back seat of an aspire that did match:-)

A white faced instrument cluster (with tach) this is why I love junk yards:-)

but no fuel pump because they pull almost all the tanks and junk them before they get to the yard. DAMIT!

but a good day otherwise, price of rims and tires is no longer 5 bucks a piece, becasue its not summer :-( but I couldn't pass them up.

I cant get my old cluster out because this dam festiva has some sort of cloth thing blocking me from the speedometer cable and wires in back, and it wont rip out. None of my other festy's have had that (the one in the yard had it to, so I had to cut the speedo cable off that one).

I can't disconnect my speedo from tranny because the darn thing is impossible for me to get to. I will just take it to my mechanic and have him disconnect it so i can put the cluster in.

Anyone have a fuel pump for a fuel injected stiva?

I didn't have the money, but in two weeks im going back for two sets of manual seat belts, and smooth tail lights, hope they are there when I get back:-)

Make sure you get everything in the interior. There are quite a few differences in the manual and auto seat belts including the headliner.

I also love the yards. I go almost every Saturday. Rarely any festivas. I've been getting stuff for scrap weight lately.

Went to the local PickNPull at lunchtime today and there are at least 6 Festivas in there! Odd thing is they are all automatics :?

If anyone from the Calgary area is interested there are two with factory alloys. One is grey with no center caps and the other is white complete with the caps.

I'll probably be back there on Tuesday so if anyone is looking for something let me know and I'll see what I can do.

My local Pick 'n' Pull had about a half dozen Festivas.

          Now there's only one left.

Well, if you can find a dark blue passenger side fender from an 88 or 89, preferrably with a white stripe on it, I'll buy it from you.

I went to the yard today. There was an 4dr. auto Aspire with 86,000 miles, no rust, runs/drive, and very nice condition. It was sitting in line to be crushed. Since the title had already been tagged scrap I couldn't buy it. This sucks, I know the car owner only got just over $100 for scrap for this car. I could easily get over $1000 on ebay for it.

Nothing. I got there too late in the day. If I am lucky they will put it out in the yard and I'll get it next weekend. I hate to miss this stuff.

I just stopped by the junkyard today, they had 7 festivas. I scored some power mirrors, tach cluster(yellow), new tail light gaskets, some nice pioneer speakers, and a hood prop. $42 for the lot. I practically skipped out of there.

I haven't a decent junkyard trip in a while, all the ones they have are stripped.. which is funny because I don't see very many festivas/aspires around here anymore... someone has a very big stash of parts. The only thing I dislike about junkyards is that alot of the festivas/aspires have very little body damage.. probably only a new motor or tranny is all they need, but instead they get stripped and crushed. Very sad indeed.
