I just saw a notice that Toyo has come out with a new 24" passenger car tyre.
This is becoming a pestulant peeve of mine since little tyres are becoming a bit hard to find, at least in the exact sizes I'd prefer. Tyres that were available ten years ago are now disappearing. It's hard to find a 165/70-13 and seemingly impossible to find a 185/55-13.
But 975/25XZR-24s for the latest Cadillac El Petrodiablo PPS are probably going to show up soon, en masse.
When is this insanity going to end? In this age of miniaturization and new mass production techniques, why aren't the car makers making things cheaper and simpler?
Nah, I shouldn't ask that. The answer is "no market; no money in it."
Look at the newest "small" cars. The new Toyota Yaris will have up to 18" tyres! At the wheel maker websites, 15" is usually the starting point to their lines.
But HOW BIG IS TOO BIG? How much bigger can wheelwells get?
Karl
