  • Aspire possibly saved my life...

Well my friend bought a new used car. He bought a mid 80s BMW 325 ES and he invited me to come take a look at it last night. So I let the dogs out get dressed and headed out to his house. It was either back roads or highway and with the time of day I figured the back roads was the way to go. So I hit the back roads. Everything is going great im jamming to the radio smoking a ciggarette and having a nice drive. I make a left hand turn on to the next road and get up to the speed limit of 55 mph. Cruising along I see the front end of a bigger truck inching out of its driveway. It comes to a complete stop and I figured ok no worries he sees me coming. WRONG!!! Out he comes.....

At this point stuff is flashing in my head OMG so I jam on the brakes. Fronts lock up and am barreling toward him sliding all over the place. The truck is a bit lifted looking with oversized tires. I keep on the brakes because if I let off im done for. Im thinking OMG im gonna go right under this truck and decapitate myself and the air bag is just gonna launch it into outerspace. I keep on the brakes and was gonna try to let off at the last second to turn toward the ditch. The car stops right before the driveway he was coming out of and all I hear is BUAH BUAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH and tires squeal. He blows out of there like dust in the wind and there I sit with my heart jumping out of my chest.

I get off the brakes so they dont seize up and just continue driving and called the wife to have someone to relieve my stress and calm me down. I noticed I have nice bald spots on my fron tires now yay. Got to my friends house and hung out left about 4 hours later. My front right wheel bearing is humming at me so that will need some attention.

I am just glad that I am ok and the car didnt sustain any serious damage. The car saved my life potentially and it deffinately is not going anywhere anytime soon. I fell in love with the car last night when we both experienced a near total annihilation experience. Happy Festiva-ing folks and keep your brakes tip top-Jeremiah.

Glad you're ok. You should get the authorities involved.... that's really BS.

I am not too concerned with getting the authorities involved as the other driver would get a ticket at best. Things happen for a reason and something will catch up to him one day. I am just glad to be alive and uninjured. My brakes were not on fire and today the wheel bearing seems to be ok. I am gonna go ahead and replace it just incase and do the other side as well. Also going to inspect the brakes all the way around just to keep myself and my family safe.

Yes and theres big black tire streaks in front of his house, I would hope the authorities do more than just give him a ticket for what he did. Thats pretty much leaving the scene.

You didn't go in a ditch, trash a fence, or hit the truck. I don't see how this is an actual accident? I guess i leave the scene of a non accident everyday too. Sometimes three times a day when my daughter is in school.

If you want to F him back you can always get his plate and report him for drunk driving at a later date. It's not really breaking the law as civilians aren't qualified to make the judgment that another driver is impaired. You just call 911 and tell the dispatcher that he's driving like a jackass, that he could be drunk. Cops listen a lot when its a holiday.

roboskittle, glad you werent injured. things like that do scare the hell out of ya though, amazing how much one can be thinking of in just the instant something like that happens.

              good idea getnpsi had too..hehehe.

Like I said his will come to him some day and I wont be involved lol. I know people make mistakes and I have been one of those people but I would never just leave after something like that happened unless it wasnt my fault. There was really no accident at all so there really isnt anything to report like getnpsi said other than the guy is a donkey and needs to learn how to drive or atleast get his eyes checked. I am gonna check the brakes and bearings tonight hopefully if it cools off enough out here. The sound has gone away so maybe they were just really hot last night or the flat spots in the tires were causing the noise.

Just scored a set of escort lx 14s for 20 bucks today and hope to have them powdercoated in the future and they will reside on the Aspire until I put them on a brake swapped Festiva. On the way home I experienced a DWT (driving while texting) which is illegal here in Arkansas. Guy ran off the road kicked up a bunch of gravel which bounced off my car luckily not hitting the windshield but did take a nice gouge out of my not so perfect paint. Im just not having any luck lately in this car lol. Hopefully better luck is on the way.

You're right. I'm glad that you didn't actually hit the truck. My Aspire was trashed when I hydroplaned into the back of a pickup at 28mph and put a triple ball trailer hitch through my bumper and radiator. Pushed my hood all the way up to the exhaust manifold. He never hit his brakes, just the car in front of him, so I had no time to react. I'm glad you fared far better.

My main concern was that I was skidding. I wanted to let off the brakes to stop the skidding but I just kept into them and hoped for the best. I didnt get around to looking at the brakes and stuff today but I did however find the root of all my fuel issues. First I thought the exhaust gases blowing directly on the fuel tank did it which it helped quite a bit by fixing that. Today however I knew my friend had a stock dsm pump laying around and figured we could give it a go. Got over there pulled my pump and bingo found my problem. My sock was curled up like the wicked whiches feet were after the red ruby slippers came off of them. It was covered in what looked like mud but it wasnt mud just old nasty fuel sediment. Off came the old strainer on went a new one all problems are gone with my fuel issue. The fuel was very hot and now I know why the tank was pressurizing so bad. Pump was struggling to suck fuel through a WD40 can size hole im sure and was overheating and starting to cut out. Acceleration is nice and smooth and all is well. I even climbed a hill without losing speed this time lol. Later guys....

Well since time expired to edit the above when I make reference to a WD40 can sized hole I am actually meaning a WD40 can straw sized hole.
