  • Think I finally decided to start a swap!

So I think I'm ready to possibly do a swap in my festy.
I have decided on the B8 swap. This will be my first swap ever and I think it would be the best option for me for easiness/hp increase. I also have a friend who has done many swaps who will most likely be helping me out.

So I have a couple questions that I have been reading up on and not getting %100 answers on.

    1) Cost of entire swap? (average of course) I realize different places cost different. So I would either probably go to pull a part and pull it myself or find a complete car and pull it. So what was the average cost for everyone else for everything.

    2) MPG? I will have a good 4speed tranny (will that hold up?)

    3) What kind of performance increase did you all notice? Going from 63hp-103 hp seems like a nice jump. I'd like to get an idea of how much quicker it would be.

That's all I have for now I think. I have two things holding me back on this.
-First my B3 only has 96,000 miles on it and is still a great motor and I feel like it would be a waste to get rid of it. Should I sell it? Keep it until it's toast and do a swap (that could be forever!) Or pull it and store it?
-Second the cost of the swap. I'd like to have an idea of how much to have ready because if I do it, it will have to be done fairly quickly. Seems like you can get it done in a weekend.

Thanks in advance. Sorry if this is another beaten to death thread to start but it will really help me make a decision!

Prices range from free to $10,000.....depending on which way you go.

I paid $400 for my donor protege. Another $200 for a good clutch (you'll see why) And another $200 or so for all gaskets and water pump and stuff. So it can be done for less than $1000.

Performancewise no comparison. Hope this helps and feel free to ask any ?s you have

Thanks that's what I want to see ^^ What it cost yourself personally.
I have one other question for everyone.
-- How long do these motors last? I understand the better you take care if it the longer but what is a good average. Are they as dependable as B3's?

As for performance is it a huge difference then? I assume almost doubling HP would be a huge difference :p

They are as or more reliable than a b3. It won't be worked as hard. Mine had 131k miles on it when I swapped it in. I've been rough for the last 3k and it's doing just fine. Should go 200k easily.

So after finally deciding to do the B8 swap, I'm no going and picking up a B6T and a BP engine... (plus a ton of other stuff! Check out my other thread). Anyway now I need to make a decision on which to swap in first, the fate of the second engine is unkown. I'm not to worried on the ease of the swap I will have a decent garage with air tools and a guy who can weld and all that.

So I've tried looking it up on here but what are the numbers for these engines, what's their HP?

          MPG?

          Both engines will rebuilt also.

So what is everyones opinion BP or B6T... I don't really know anything about turbos, my friend does but I've never dealt with them. I'm not looking to do a bunch of mods after I swap in the new motor so I suppose I'm looking for the quicker of the two being stock.

          Thanks!

BP is easier. B6t is easier to get more power from in stock form. BP is probably more stock trans friendly.

Well I'm getting the rest of the stuff this week sometime. I think I've changed my mind and will do the B6T swap since I know the engine is in running condition. It's still in the 323 and I will have that home soon! The 323 isn't in great shape I'll have to look more at it when I bring it home haven't had much a chance to really look at it.

But I think I will swap in the B6T into my new Festiva (not my current DD) Since the new one will be able to have the aspire swap and it's current B3 isn't as good as shape as mine.

Any advice on the swap? I'm going to have to rebuild the engine (this will be my first rebuild also) So basically I'm a complete newbie to all of this. I've been reading the swap guide and I showed it to my friend (he's a honda guy) and we should be able to get it done!

Are there any rebuild kits or what do you all suggest? How much does it cost to rebuild the engine? (Gaskets, etc.)

Oh and the tranny from the 323 will be going on also. I'm sure there are plenty of threads on swapping the B6T and G25MR Tranny
