  • New Here. 1989 Ford Festiva.

Just bought a 1989 Ford Festiva L for 370 dollars. It has 323,000 miles on it

Just wondering the specs on the car and what time of engine it has exactly. It has a 4 speed manual. I cant find anything on the internet really and the car has no book manual in it. I can only find reviews on the car.

Any information on it would be helpful like what type of oil it takes etc. Thanks.

"Welcome my festiva brother", as my friend Dean used to say!
Do yourself and us a favor and add your location to your profile.
It doesn't have to be an exact address but give us a general idea of where you are as it might be useful if someone wanted to drop by and give you a hand or send you parts.

You can add your location to your profile as follows:

Go to User CP (top of the Page in the blue bar)
    Control Panel(left side of screen)
Edit Profile-scroll to bottom of page to location.

Most of your questions have been answered before, but I'll give you some general answers now with the understanding you need to do some reading and searching on this site.

    '89 4spd is a Carbureted SOHC 1.3L 4 cylinder engine.

Oil will depend on the condition of the engine.
New I believe 10w-30 OR 5W-30 was recommended.
But with that number of miles I suspect your burning some, if it did not have proper maintenance. If that is the case 10W-40 or even 20W-50 might be acceptable in the Summer anyway, with thinner oil for winter use.
Oil filter for reference only is a Fram PH-3387A cross reference to whatever filter you prefer.

A Haynes or Ford manual is of real value.
Place a [WTB] in this site, after reading the rules which apply to the For Sale section, or look for one on e-bay.

            Tune-up:
Spark plugs, wires, cap, and rotor
            Should help.
Running some fuel injection cleaner in the gas tank might help.

            For free:
            Check the timing
            Check idle speed
            Adjust if needed.

Driving habits/speed also play a major roll in MPG.

Almost forgot, check your tire pressure.

this is my first carbureted engine so i really dont know how to adjust the timing and speed. Heck i dont even know where the carbuerator is located in the engine bay.

Again, a very good reason to search ebay or place a [WTB] here for a manual.
Searching this site will also give you some answers.

Under the dirty black round thing with 3 hold down clamps, between the strut mounts and to the upper left of the oil cap in your pic.
