IIRC, Car & Driver had a comparison test way back when, and one of the cars was a Festy. The reviewer said something like "When you sit in a Festiva, you are sitting in the perfect car" !!!
If it has boobs or wheels, sooner or later you're going to have trouble with it.

This was what sold me on mine when i bought it. I read probably 100 reviews on them and so many people gave good reviews i figured it was a safe bet...i hadn't even been on the forum yet kind of because i believe enthusiasts are inclined to be biased because they love the car for other reasons. I did get a misconception that parts where plentiful and cheap because the car is small and old..which doesn't really seem to be true.
Very few cars are close to the Festiva in terms of reliability and simplicity, and fewer yet have the cult following of our cars. In fact, as far as economy cars go, the Festiva stands out as the best ever sold here.
The only others that others seem to hold in such high regard are the RWD Volvos, diesel Mercedes and 4wd Tercels...but they're in a totally different class.
Great find. I can concur on the reliability of em. I bought my 90 lx new and just drive it. Once in a while I'll put tires on it. It now has 371k miles on original engine, starter, clutch, and original a/c compressor with r-12 still in it. Heck the freon is worth more than the car lol. Once I changed the valve cover gasket. timing belt every 60k and most important oil and filter every 3500 miles. It still runs strong and does'nt use oil between changes.
I love it when I see a Festiva with www.fordfestiva.com on it! More often I see a middle age...or older...person driving one with no clue what they have!
Ive probably told this story before but there I go again, sorry. The wife and I have logged close to 3/4(s) of a million miles in festivas, going on 20 years now. Only had one breakdown on the road. It was a sub zero day and the wife called because her festiva ( lil bertha) quit on her going to work. I rescued her in my festiva ( big bertha , now Freshtiva ) and took her to work while her car sit off the road. At the end on the day I packed some tools and we went to get her festy home. I popped the hood and told her to crank it over to evaluate the problem. It started. I closed the hood and she drove it home. Never had a problem with it again. I've had other minor problems on the road before but the festiva always got me home with out damage to me or the car.
