  • Decisions, Decisions.....

Went to a family reunion today, and somehow the discussion between me and a cousin became about Festivas. How does that always happen?:p

Anyway, he's got an 89L, basically the twin to my 89, which he was telling me was having running problems. Sounds from his description that he's having vac line/ carb issues. Haven't looked at the car yet, so I'm kind of going by what he says it acts like. Anyway, I have a choice to make. I can either help him get that car running right, or help him find another fairly cheap, decent running Festiva, and I can have his 89. Think he's just gotten tired of messing with it.

So, what would you guys do? Help him get his car back on the road, or scrounge up a different Festiva for him, and me end up with his car, which I would then get to figure out what is wrong with it. I guess either way, I'm going to fix it, just a matter of whether I get a little cha-ching out of it, or do I end up with a free car? Thoughts? Opinions?

Depends on what color the car is. If it's yellow, oops, they didn't do yellow in 89. Oh well, depends on whether you want to end up with another car or not.

Kind of depends on what his needs. I'll be headed there tomorrow after work. From his description, it could be as small as bad plugs/wires, all the way up to, well, use your imagination.

All I got was it's hell to get started, hell to keep running til it's warmed up, and it bucks and misses a lot once it does get running. Guess I'll know more tomorrow.

Well, that was too easy. Popped the hood, figured out a couple of vac. lines were not connected. Determined after reconnecting those, that virtually no fuel was getting through the filter. As a precaution, my cousin picked up a fuel filter, air filter, plugs, wires, cap, and button to have on hand when we started working on the car. Swapped out the fuel filter, and between that and fixing the vac leaks, the car now runs better than he says it has run in a long time. Went ahead and did the plugs, wires, etc. Also pulled, cleaned, and swapped out his fusible links for the pinks and greens. Car runs great. So, I guess I'm out a free car.
On the other hand, I can honestly say I helped put a Festiva back on the road.

you guys are missing the big picture....if he would have taken the offer...he would have found another Festy that could be saved plus had a car out of it.....now it is still just the one. Oh well....at least it is back to running decent.
