  • I don't think this is repairable

kartracer46 and I were talking on the phone this afternoon while he was driving home from VA when all of a sudden, he goes - I think I blew a hose - this is not good. He looks under the hood and finds it is much worse than that!

The radiator split at the seam in front of the radiator cap and he's a hundred miles from home. Had to figure out how to get him and the car home and get a new radiator. I had the radiator, but my truck is in the shop and I can't tow the trailer right now. littlebluecar worked out how to get him home and then we headed for Hertford to take him another radiator. Just another average Festiva filled day. LOL

I'm no expert but that looks unrepairable to me, hopefully I am wrong though.

From the looks of the pic, it is repairable but it will need a new top pressed on probably but can't tell too much from the pic. Either way that radiator is coming out.

Slap a little duct tape on it, it'll be fine.

Yeah, I think you are right, Ms. Smedley, he needs a new(er) one.

Thank you so much for all the help. I got the new/used radiator installed and it's all back to normal once again. If it hadn't have been for the support of Barb and Littlebluecar.

Since I have gotten back to work my Festy is logging 1200 miles per week, I didn't even get upset when this happened. It was a 22 yr old radiator that was working overtime in 100+ degree days in heavy traffic when it finally got tired and let go. I was going to call my Ford dealer and see if it was still under warranty, LOL.

I'm sure it is. Glad you guys got everything worked out, and the Festy is back up and running. 1200 miles a week??
Feh, guess I can't say too much, I put 65k miles on Batstiva the first year I had her.

Just for S&Gs, I called "Stop Repair Bills Now" after I saw one of their commercials. Oddly, they would not cover any of my Festivas?? Hmmm...

                  Kartracer,
                  You need dual festy radiators!
                  There's room for them!

You got any pics of the rad after you pulled it.
Was wondering it the glass reinforced PA66 cracked or warped when it cut loose?

I think under those high heat conditions I might consider shoe-horning in a "heavy duty" Festy rad from an A/T car. And yeah Smedley & crew are the best!

Focustiva: Because I was told it was was impossible to fit a Focus bumper on a Festiva.

                            Sam,

I actually offered him the other one in the garage that is the A/T rad, but he decided to just go back stock for now. Wait until he's ready for an engine swap, then he'll be wanting it!

To put that into "engineering terms" then ...

An engine's ability to produce power is directly proportional to it's radiator's ability to keep it from going into melt-down! LOL! Yep... he'll be back for that A/T rad!
