  • Trailer tires?

So since there's pretty much only one new tire sold for the festiva

I was trying to figure out if I wanted to front out the money or not for new tires. I had a light bulb go off and realized that if you aren't performance based driving, could you use a trailer tire like this one...

^ Those have plenty of load range, and are really cheap but the only difference is they have .6" shorter overall height. I think when I get the money I'm going to try them out and see how they do... that is unless there is a down side I'm not seeing.

They are not DOT approved for passenger car applications and are not designed to handle, turn & brake safely. Other than that, they would technically fit. Bottom line, they're not safe (unless your turning your Festy into a trailer). You would be better off spending $20 each on used tires if you can't swing it for new ones.

I could be wrong about the DOT approved thing for passenger car use, but my guess is that after about 5 miles driving on them you'll want to switch them back out due to "ride & drive" feel.

There are references to the tires as well as the wheel in the thread.

Go the the JY and get a pair (or four) of 13" rims/tires off a Metro or something else, with decent tires. Cheap upgrade so you can buy better tires later.

And yeah, trailer tires are not designed to handle the sideloads that car tires are.
