1994 toyota camry strut

i have replaced my festiva strut assembly with no problems but on my toyota camry after i bolt it on top it seems longer at the bottom and will not line up with the bolt hples to the spindle. do i have to put a jack under the strut to to compress the spring to line up the bottom bolt holes?
