i am about to buy a '97 aspire, would the engine work in my 91 festiva? my friend said it might not because its obd2?

I once put a 97 aspire motor in an 89 carb festy. As I remember I had to put an electric fuel pump in because the pump pad is not machined on the aspire motor, but that won't apply to the 91 with efi. Strip it down to a long block and put all your 91 stuff, fuel injectors, intake, exhaust manifold etc. on and your good to go. It should bolt to your trans. also, either auto or manual as well. My 97 motor was auto and I bolted it to the 4 speed manual in the 89. Good luck with your endevor
