  • Terrible weekend but look what I got

I had a terrible weekend. The original plan was to get a tow dolly and my buddy and I were going to Philadelphia to pick up 2 festivas from Sandm849. One for me and one for my buddy. I would tow one back and he would drive the other. Then the other day i saw a 323GT for sale in the Philly area. So I called and arranged a Saturday pick up of that car. From my house to Philly its 450 miles and I planned to make the trip twice.

Left late Friday evening by myself to get the 323 and drove most of the way Then slept 4 hours in my truck. Got there and Saturday morning and bought the 323GT. Left and went about 150 miles with the Uhaul tow dolly and it got a flat. 3 hours till a uhaul repair person came. Got back on the road, went another 50 miles and stopped for gas. I was looking at my truck and noticed that the tow dolly safety chains were now touching the ground. Why? I have a class 2 bumper hitch. Turns out that 1 side of my bumper completely broke off and I've been driving on the highway like that.

Now I 250 miles from home. I left the car and dolly at a truck stop. I had to then drive all the way home 250 mile, borrow a friends truck, drive 250 back, connect back up and 250 mile home. All on 4 hours sleep.

Never made it to Philly to get the festivas. Next weekend I hope.

I did get the 323GT home. I needed this for the tranny and axles. I have a hydraulic G25MR tranny but would rather use a cable operated one. The motor has 165000 miles and smokes on startup and the idle searches. I won't be using this anyway. I have a BPT coming on Thursday . I'll part the car out, I should be able to make all my money back.

        That sucks!

Look at the bright side, though - nothing was damaged and you got your 323 GT.

I hate when that kind of stuff happens, but you got your axles and tranny! Nice find on the 323 GT

Pretty clean. It's going to bother me a bit to part this thing out. I just have to keep telling myself that the parts are going for a better cause.

The car would make a nice driver.

Then why don't you just drive the 323? Having owned both cars, I can tell you that a 323GT is a M-U-C-H better daily driver then a turbo Festiva. I like my Festiva a lot, but realistically, it's not the most comfortable car. It doesn't make sense to rip apart a good 323GT to just use the transmission and axles, especially since you can find those parts relatively easy. Some people would kill for a clean 323GT/GTX...

It's a 4 door and I really don't care for those cars. Now if it was a hatchback I would keep it. It's the same as sacrificing an entire aspire for the brakes, not a problem.

But then again, an Aspire is not valued the way a 323 GT or GTX is...

Yeah they didn't make 800 Aspires. And most Aspires are in the junkyard already anyways.

Hmm. They made 2500 GTiR's but I had no problem using those parts!
