  • Now this is luxury

.... Just received this as an E-mail. I think it might have been around once before, interesting though.

Now this is a luxury car! :angel5:

Driving a car with disappearing doors will definitely grab everyone's attention.

.... I want to know what happens when you have four inches of ice on you car when you try to get in? Or; how about when it’s raining or snowing?—how comfortable would you be after entering when the door closes all wet or snow covered? Great idea; maybe a tweak could make it even better!

    .
A hunch is creativity trying to tell you something.

It's been mentioned on this site before. Ford was messing with this idea back in the '90s.

I think it would work better on an SUV or minivan.

That's the one they were messing with in the nineties. It wasn't fords thing though. They just happened to used fords cars...mark viii's.

Somehow I doubt they would take side impacts well.

Fun fact: The Lincoln Mark VIII has the 32 valve aluminum modular motor in it. Most people don't know that. Makes that motor really easy to find.
        Current cars:

        1984 Toyota Cressida - 2JZGE Swap, Turbocharged.
2013 Mazda Mazda2 - Exhaust and Wheels (the daily)
        2002 Toyota Tundra - V6/Auto/2WD - The Tow Vehicle.

For the snow/ice I am sure they could make the doors heated like they do the seats, at least the door seams. As for when its actually raining or snowing I wouldent know what to do or how they would fix that.

actually, i could see how the take an impact VERY well, just because there isn't a B pillar doesn't mean the door can't be very strong, especially since weight isn't as much of a consideration now that you don't have to touch it to open or close.

Well they could put side airbags in it and I am sure they reinforce the door with horizontal beams.

Ok? and if the door motor or window motor breaks? Window motor... step on your window when entering or exiting... Door motor... get stuck in your car or destroy the door if you have to drive it like that... Either way... BAD idea IMO.

I think gullwing doors would be more practical than those motorized hideaways. Especially when there are no extra motors involved.

If you get hit in the door, even if it's not that bad, you can't get out of the car without going through the window.
