And yeah, you can run a sizeable bolt through the hub (with appropriate sized washers and nyloc nuts). Both Jim and i have done it at highway speeds with no issues, the bolt won't be off center enough to cause any measureable or harmful vibrations (too close to center).
Jim assured me they did not!
Or maybe that they wouldn't fall out of position like an MTX would.

Well, I do beleive that I said vibration shouldn't be an issue.
Still like the outer half shaft as a means of holding the hub together, better than the bolt option.

if you can do a one wheel peal in an ATX (and you can), then you have spider gears.... just sayin'. and they'll still fall/move just like the MTX. remember, an ATX is just another way to transmit power from the engine to the pinion gear that rotates the ring gear in the diff. all transaxles have a ring and pinion gear combo, even the CVTs

Sounds I need to have strong words with with FB71!

So I need to leave an inner CV shaft in an ATX just like I would a MTX when moving it!

I would cut the ends off a set of old axles. You need the ends in the transaxle to retain fluid & keep dirt out. Seems easier to rent a tow dolly, as long as you have a full size pickup with a receiver hitch. I know U-Haul is kind of particular about the tow vehicle set-up.

I used the u-haul dolly with my Grand Marquis to bring the Festiva home.

It was easier than towing my pop up camper... Felt like there was nothing back there until I looked in the rear view mirror and saw it smiling at me

Alrighty! I am going to try to keep this straight....

Festyboy! You don't recall what size bolt you bought, do you? Otherwise, I am going to be dragging a steering knuckle into home depot....And did you just get close, or does it need to be fairly tight? It is centered, so...

The car does not start. I tried to get it started on site, but every fix leads to another problem. It is a good haul, so I just want to get it home, where I can probably get it running in a couple hours.

I am going to be towing it with another Festiva, no way U-haul will rent me a dolly! Here, they will not even rent it to you with a full sized truck, if said truck has a bumper hitch, it HAS to be a class II or better hitch.

I won't be exceeding 55-60 though. The last one was a piece of cake, but was an MTX.

As far as holding the spider gears in place, the Ford Rotunda tool kit that the dealers used specifically for the Festiva came with two cheap plastic caps to stick into the trans. I suppose I could take pics if anyone wants them, but you can just slide a wooden dowel through there when the axles are out. maybe a wire to keep it from sliding out during transport.

Scitzz, your telling me you don't have a pair of crappy axles you can't disassemle and use for this?

3/4 x 4.5" bolt, rear washer is 1.5" across, front washer at 1.25 or 1.5 across. USE A NYLOCK NUT.

a tighter fit would be an M19 bolt of similar length, but i don't think you'll find that at HD. you want the bolt rather snug when installed.

Blech. Home Depot sucks. They didn't have half of what I needed. Also, 3/4 inch washers were 2 inches across, think those would fit?
