  • Baby car seat

As the festiva only vehicle transportation at the moment. Has anyone else had put baby car seat in the back? Wife being grumpy now she read the baby car seat manual saying not all vehicles support baby seats....

Oh yes, I remember those days. I had a rear facing seat and a booster seat at the same time. The booster was way easy.

It was funny cause I would put the littlest one in from the hatch into the rear facing seat. It was easier that way. Kinda embarassing but funny at the same time.

My brother is local PD and he never told me anything was wrong law wise anyway. My saw them tightly buckled and has never given me grief. Now I am lucky that both are in boosters now.

There are two weld nuts in the body on the inner lower body beneath the rear hatch. They are meant for the swivel Ford child seat tether anchors. I have two of them even though I don't have any babies. They are there as a tie down point.

Ford, GM, Chrysler and other makers have programs for free tether anchor installation at participating dealers.

Phone your local Ford dealer to see if they participate in this program.

I run my girls around in them. No problems. 90 up with the shoulder harnesses makes me way more comfortable than the lap belt only in the 88-89. What's way more important is driving like you are riding a motorcycle. meaning this. When I rode a motorcycle I rode like everybody way trying to kill me on purpose. Not like they might mess up, might not see me, might back out of their driveway into me but that they wanted to kill me. That way you are constantly looking for "en exit". Looking for the way to avoid collisions. I never drove a festiva like that until I started hauling my girls in them. That means looking both ways every time I cross an an intersection through my green light. Looking for front yards to shoot up into to avoid someone in the oncoming lane crossing in to mine. It just became a defensive vigil once I started carrying the girls with me.

We haul our almost 3 year old and probably will the one coming in August in the Festiva. In fact he prefers it with the big windows. I used the lap belt and attach the top tether to a hole right under the hatch jam. Probably ought to look into bolting some tether points eventually.
