  • A day with my son

I planned to do a little work on HOT ROD today but nothing big. Then my 16 year old son came down to the garage and wanted to help. Next thing you know we have the whole interior out cleaning and repainting everything. In addition he took an interest in fixing my windows and i am happy to let him try. Before we knew it we had spent the whole afternoon together and it was awesome. Unplanned but a great time.

While HOT ROD is looking good and pics will be coming soon the best part of the day was just being with my son. Looking forward to another day tomorrow.

I get them quite frequently probably 4 or 5 a month! I am blessed. Did hits 79 this August! Still golfing, driving tour buses a little, turning wrenches, having fun!

I love those random days out in the shop with my dad. You dont realize how much they mean till they farther and farther apart. I used to work for my dad during the summer, but lack of work for him means I cant go and help. He builds houses for a living. But working on my car or my dirtbike with him always makes me realize how much I love my dad.

I spent the afternoon with just my 2yr old this past Thursday. We actually found the only place within at least an hour drive that actually has the original "Slush Puppies". Oh yeah both of us enjoyed them tremendously. I went back with my 4yr old today.

I am really trying hard not to forget how easy that can slip away as they get older.

I always wanted my dad to wrench on cars with me. It wasn't really his thing. When I was between like 9 and 14 years old I would always talk about getting him to help me build a '70 Challenger. That was my dream car...haha but anything would have done. I have to learn how to wrench on my own now. Of course, not saying I blame my dad, it just wasn't his thing. It's great that those of you who can are able to spend time with your dad/son wrenching away! Maybe the fact your son is 16 now has something to do with the unplanned interest...heheh

After church and lunch we got after it again. Im loving his interest and got an even bigger gift today. He told me that about two weeks ago he revised his schedule for next year so that he could take auto shop. I asked him why and he said because he wanted to spend more time with me working on cars. Now as a dad any time with your son is good but when your teenage son says he wants to spend more time with you....well thats like Christmas morning!!!

My boys are still a little too young to drive. But, not to young to help me bleed my brakes tomorrow and pass me whatever tools I need. Sunny and warm + March Break.
