recently my escort gt was t-boned by a fullsize dodge truck.

afterwards i picked up a 250$ LX wagon with the 1.9L and an auto just to get around and get my kid to daycare, but unfortunately i could never get the thing to run right and it would barely keep 55mph to get me the 30 mile trip to college and back everyday.

so when a smokin deal for a 1999 Ford Contour with the 2.5L Duratec V6 and a 5 speed manual with only 101K miles on it and an absolutely immaculate body popped up on craigslist i bought it the next day.

it had a little hesitation when i bought it, but new motorcraft platinum plugs and motorcraft wires (a 120$ purchase even with my advance auto employee discount) cleaned it up perfectly.

anyone else have a contour or contour svt? so far i am absolutely loving this thing, great power with the 5 speed and POWER OPTIONS lol. power moonroof and all that jazz!

Good thing you got hit in the rear quarter. How'd you fair? Did you have to part with the EGT or were you able to keep it?

The neighbor kid down the block has had this same car with a stick for a couple years now and just runs the dog crap out of it, i'm sure it has never needed repair cause he is always driving it. still looks good and runs good. Good luck with your buy, if it's anything like this kids car you should have a good DD for quite a while. did the insurance company take the GT. Did anyone get hurt, hope all is well.

i actually came out better than i was before the accident (i had lower back problems before it which afterwards went away!) since i only had liability i did get to keep the EGT and it actually drove itself up onto the trailer when i towed it back to my parents for storage.

my grandmother has a 2000 contour and has never since buying it new had an issue with it besides a cracked headlight mounting tab. her good luck with it was one of the reasons i bought this one, hers is the same thing but with an automatic.

id use it for a BP donor but i already have 4 in the garage

Glad you're okay! (And yes, poor EGT.)

So your back problems went away? Don't tell anyone, or someone will bill you!

Nice Contour. I hear they're hard to work on though (cramped V6 space).

the wagon will likely get the EGT drivetrain come fall (as long as my VW Squareback is finished by then).

So far it has been a little cramped in the engine bay, but not too terrible since everything that has been in the way for any checking and maintenance ive performed comes off with just a couple bolts.

the oddity so far to me is the water pump being on the transmission side of the motor.

Funny, I was just talking to someone about how they faired in a accident they were involved in about a year ago, and they came out better as well. Before, they had serious issues with twisting of the spine, and it's gone away since.

Good to hear you got to keep it. Sounds like all in all, everything turned out quite alright for you. Good to hear.
