  • Crankcase ventilation...

Valve cover has two breathing points... The PCV, as well as the tube that goes directly to the intake. What exactly is the point of the latter? Can't I block it off?

The latter is the clean air intake port to scavenge crankcase gases. It also balances the crankcase vacuum to keep a constant vacuum on the crankcase.

    Don't plug it.

The PVC is a vacume line, the second one is a crankcase air inlet, if you plug the second and leave the PVC you'll sort of create a vacume canister. (not good) could possibly suck all your oil gaskets inward. Think of sucking on a soda/pop bottle, it changes the atmospheric pressure on the inside.

If you don't want that ugly black tube going from the air cleaner to the valve cover, then get a clamp on valve cover breather.

There's a little more to it than that, in fact DRDDAN actually did a write up, using that exact filter. See, the problem is, most people do this conversion just like bravekozak is describing, and that in essence will work badly. The key is in the different sizes of the holes, but take a look at this write-up http://www.fordfestiva.com/forums/pr...pm&pmid=208334 and use it as a guide, read the reasons for it as well...let us know what you do in the end, and I mean visually too.
If that's not already a sticky, it should be made one for this very reason.
