  • Another 323 bites the dust....

Just saw this on the 11 oclock news on Fox 5 Atlanta. Apparently today a bus plowed into a 323 with a guy and his pregnant wife inside. They were ok, but the car was pretty crunched. Don't know if was a GTX or not but it had the upper hatch spoiler and the 7 spoke wheels. I can't find it (its not up on their site yet) but if anyone finds it please post it. Also first person to tell me why we can assume they are ATF fans (no, not the stuff that goes in a slushbox) wins the prize! I'm just glad everyone was ok (except the motor swap ). Just goes to show that sometimes little hatches can stand up to bigger vehicles.

Finally found the article... Apparently it was in Denver not ATL like my wife and I thought when we saw it last night. But here it is.

After watching that one I'm not so sure he even knew what the writing on the door meant since it was from the PO, but it still cracks me up

That car should receive hero status. Wow. The reporter mentions that it probably doesn't have airbags, which is right. I would wonder if that may have been worse had it had airbags. I, for one, have my reservations with regard to them. They are very lucky the car didn't go further under the back of the bus.

Thanks guys. Its crazy it made it over to this forum, and to local Atlanta news. Thats crazy it would be on tv over there. haha yea its funny reading through this I remember the po told me what the danger cart was from and I forgot it was from aqua teen hunger force until you guys mentioned it again. haha awesome. yea wer definitely blessed to still be alive. corbeau racing seats bolted to the frame is definitely what kept our heads from coming off and somehow the fact that my wife kept her head planted to the seat with her eyes closed and didn't get thrown forward at all.

Thanks guys. We appreciate the sympathy. Yeah the wife is ok. Still have some symptoms of the crash of course. Its almost two weeks later and I still don't see things the same its really weird, never would have excepted that to happen to me.

Here is another story with not as good of coverage. Actually fox 31 is gonna do a follow up here pretty soon, possibly once the kid comes but maybe sooner... Not to sure.

Madelyn is still have contractions some but its not too much to be alarmed at. So, so far so good... There is still glass in my hand and possibly some nerve damage but still considering the damage of the gtx I would use the term scott free.

Hey. Good to see you make your way over here. There's a lot of 323 fans over here. Throw the link up to the follow up when it comes, well, unless someone else beats you to it. heheh That's an interesting thought about aftermarket seats.

Welcome! Its equally crazy that you made it over this forum. And as a future father myself (due in July) I want to let you know that my wife and I are very glad to hear that the wife and baby are doing ok, we were praying hard for ya'll that night we saw that on the news. Ya'll hang in there, and if you ever end up with another 323 or other Mazda don't hesitate to hit us up on here, we all love the 323s!

Wow. Thank you for your prayers we really appreciate that and know the power, so thank you. Madelyn is due around July also, thats awesome.

Yeah I am looking at a gtx in Indiana and another just shell in LA. We will see, I don't think either of them are on forums though. Its kinda tough though cause the one in LA will have to be dollied all the way back. The gtx in Indiana might not be able to make the road trip all the way back due to temp gauge not working (bad wiring I was told) and possibly a blown head gasket that I was thinking I could band aid with some blue devil just for the trip back.

I think for a 4 door I might go with a galant vr4 and keep the 2 door a gtx.

VR4s are sweet little sleepers if done up right. I'm not a mitsu guy personally but I've seen nice ones over the years. Wife wanted an an 80's k-car wagon a while back and I said she could get it if she let me do a vr4 swap But it sold before we had the cash. Glad to hear you're looking at other GTXs though, they are great little cars. Or better yet put the drivetrain from the GTX into a festiva! An AWD festiva would be great, help solve the issue a lot of our high power turbo guys are having getting that power to the track without roasting the front tires off
