heya i have a 88 festiva l and when i give it gas it cuts out and sounds like it is sucking a ton of air through the carb now i cant even keep it at idle. unless i am flooding it with gas the car dies, i have tried to adjust the carb but do not know what i am doing i just love this car and need to get it running asap

Well if it sounds like its sucking a lot of air then my guess would be a vaccum leak.

looked for one couldnt find it the air is being sucked in by the carb alot of air

carb can only suck in so much air. I think the noise your hearing is infact a vacuum leak. Spray starting fluid around the vacuum lines and see if the car dies or revvs up. I just went through this about 4 days ago and it ended up being a vacuum leak.

try lightly tapping the area where the fuel line enters the carb and see if the needle seat just trapped a piece of dirt or debris in the seat. a ratchet or hammer with a rubber handle works good, just be sure to use the rubber end so you don't harm the carb. Better if you can do it running so the fuel pressure can pass whatever it is past the seat.

Then be sure to install a new clean fuel filter.
