UPDATE 180K & Pulling strong
Hey guys just thought I'd give some good news.I registered this basket case the first week of July. I have since logged 30k on it. The motor is rock solid so I've been using Mobil One. At about 7 K the oil starts to break down & starts leaking a little from either the front main or Cam Seal.It sure doesnt use any oil thats for sure. But this is my first 1.3 and I'm quite pleased. I had 94 EGT back in the day.And I cant say anything bad about it as well.

BTW I have a used E series that I'm cleaning up for the Aspire. It feels very smooth when you rotate the input shaft. And smooth in various gears. I'm thinking about splitn the case just to see whats inside. I could post pics. Its a $100.00 tranny so I guess I shouldn't be all to optimistic. Its def not the orig tranny from his festy cuz its got the tell tale yellow "Paint Pen" markings of a junk yard purchase. Anyway don't I want a G series for durability reasons? I know they aren't a direct bolt it,but I can work through that. I have a tendency to push cars to they're limit. Sometimes a little to hard. Thanks for checking up on me btw-Thomas

That's a good looking car, for the most part! With that rust, I'd be testing the rust intensity around the strut towers and where the rear beam meets the car both in and outside the car. I agree with the accident theory, because they Maacoed the car (and painted over the rear tail light and emblems). That interior looks pretty good. The rust on the rear wheel arches looks like the only minus. A little grinding and fiberglass would fix that cheap enough. By the rear tail-lights it's a 94 but that's 97's front end. Must of been a soft hit I don't see any damage on the radiator support. I wouldn't part it out unless it has real issues underneath.. I know some on here are quick to part them. I have both and both are unique in there own ways. If you were closer I'd probably be able to help you get parts

Thanks guys I needed the input. I just wanted to make sure its not totally to much money. I'm sure you all can appreciate my fear. We've all prolly bought a car that we shouldn't have because of excitement about a project. Then realize we've jumped the gun & paid too much. I've really been lurking around trying to find an Aspire. And this one seems fairly do-able. I'm hoping the tranny might just be shift fork or bushing related? But time will tell. Maybe I should try to fix the tranny before I start parting the car.....Then I wont have that thought nagging me while I'm swapping parts.Last edited by nitrofarm; 05-08-2011, 09:47 PM.
