exhuast upgrade
How do these motors respond to a new cat-back ( besides the sweet sound) Better mpg, more hp? What else can you combo with one for best results? Iv'e got a stock 91L.

If you go for sound chances are you are going to drive the harder to listen to your upgrade, killing city mileage. On the open road, an opened up system may help slightly. Advanced timing, the FMS cam and a header would help some more but the cost of those pieces is less than another engine such as the sohc b6 1.6L. The festiva is actually more black and white in this regard vs. other makes and models. If you want great mpg leave the car alone if you want bolt-on performance, bolt-in a larger mazda engine
P.S. If you think of a swap and read the FAQ;s , the bolt-ons listed above go right on to that b6 engine and it will breathe better and take advantage1993 GL 5 speed

There is SOME grey area. Members claim the b6 can net almost the same MPG as the b3 engine, and member nerdracing claimed he could behave in his 1.8 sohc aspire and get similar numbers to a tired b3. Again, with extra power comes extra responsibility to not use power if you are trying to save fuel.1993 GL 5 speed
