  • Tune up time.

Well hello to everyone first of all!
I have a 91 Festiva with almost 300k on the dial. I think its time for some work to be done on it.

Heres what Im thinking of changing on it.

    Front and rear Struts
Right passenger rear spindle (if I can find one, wheel is getting ready to come off)
    Spark plugs
    Ignition wires
    Distributor Cap
    Distributor Rotor
    Left and Right Half shafts
    Left and Right front bearings
    Tie rod ends

Is there anything else I should look to be changing on this? Trying to make it road-worthy again.
    Thanks, Clay

Also, Is there somewhere to buy new coil springs for front or back? Id assume with 300k on them they probably need changed out.

+1 on this. Solves your braking, spindle and bearing issues all at once! I don't think you can use the Aspire axles, but everything else is a good upgrade. And you get a spare motor and tranny that you can keep or sell.

And you'll want to use the Aspire sway bar too.

Put your location in your profile. There might be a member near you who can help. And get a Haynes manual if you don't have one.

So with the Aspire, I just swap the spindles, brakes, control arms, suspension all onto my festiva? All bolt on?

It looks like its going to cost me around $600 in parts from the autostore. If I have to spend $600 on a Aspire for used low miles parts are they that much better?

You will use the Festiva control arms, not the Aspire ones.

              http://parkersburg.craigslist.org/cto/2392566729.html

Have to wait and see if the guy takes what Im offering for it.
Local pick-n-pull has one on the lot also, havent been to check it out yet

That looks more like a fixable daily driver than a donor car.

I saw that, but maybe he's referring to the rear bumper. That needs to be clarified.

Yeah im not sure if he just meant the bumper and window or if the uniframe is bent in the rear end or something.

I like the looks of a Festiva over an Aspire anyday

Aspire swap the festy, then turn around and festy swap the Aspire... just to keep it mobile as a backup vehicle in case the festiva is down (unlikely) or in case the festiva goes under the knife for a powertrain transplant (much more likely). Also, white stripedy red cars look good period, even Aspires
                          No festiva for me ATM...

Well just an update, after looking over the festiva yesterday I discovered it was the front drivers bearing that is bad. All four struts are shot. Both side boots on cv axle are torn open, one side makes a clicking sound with wheel fully turned.
So I got 4 new struts and a bearing/seals. I figured if im going to spend $500ish on a parts car and then still need to buy new axle shafts that It would be cheaper just to replace parts on the car.
Ive been reading that front bearings are a PITA to do and that they need pressed in and out. I think it might be easier to find a good hub with good bearings just to swap in. Also maybe find some good used L & R half shafts
I really want to get this thing running quickly and cheaply as possible. Paying $600 a month to drive my Jeep back and forth to work is killing me.
