I went to the shop today to pick up the shell of my 88 323 donor car to prepare it to go to scrap. I took a back road that I don't normally take due to the fact that the lights on the trailer I was using were kind of sketchy. On the way home I noticed a red festy sitting in a yard and the weeds were tall around it. So like any good Festiva owner I stopped to see if it was for sale. It's a red 88 L manual trans. It's in pretty decent shape needs some cleaning the guy who owns it says it has a blown head gasket and I ask him what he would want for it and he says 500 which is way more than I'm used to paying for a non-running festy. He starts telling me how he scraps cars and he could get that much out of it for scrap. I then try to buy parts off of it and that doesn't work out so I'm pretty bummed out and I thank him for his time and start to leave and then he asks me what I'm doing with the car on the trailer so I tell him and I couldn't believe it when he offered to swap me straight across the Festiva for the 323 shell he says they weigh close to the same so I didn't argue and I now have an 88 with a blown head gasket yet another festy to fix

I'm going to pick it up tomorrow since I didn't have my winch today. I will try to get pics then. It does need a grille and a hood because he hit a dog but everything still functions ok so it is just cosmetic it does have the nicest set of smoothies that I have ever seen

Well I got it home today and I was incorrect before it is an 89 manual with air it's a little rougher than I originally thought mostly interior but on a good note I was able to drive it onto the trailer I see no signs of a bad head gasket as the owner thought but I didn't let it run long enough to get warm though so I am going to mess with it some more and see if I can't get it on the road

I love it when I find smoothies in great shape. Never ceases to amaze me how well so many Festiva parts hold up year after year just sitting in a junk yard or some farmer's yard surrounded by weeds.

Good luck getting her all fixed up!
