  • Another 5-spd Transmission Question

    Guys -

    Does a 4-spd shifter work in a 5-spd transmission?

Heard from someone that it will work.....gears 1-4 and Reverse work as normal and you just have to push the shifter to the right and forward to get the 5th gear.

    Is that correct??

If so, I would not have thought that the 4-spd's below-the-floor linkage would have been able to 'grab' / shift into that 5th gear.

If you mean the shifter, it will interchange.

The shift pattern is dictated by transmission internals.

Same part. The difference is all in the transmission.

        OK, good to know!

Several months ago I saw a "5-spd shifter" advertised on e-Bay and I then incorrectly assumed that there was a difference between a 4-spd and 5-spd shifter.

        Thanks, guys!

Only difference is the stamp on the knob
