WOW, I am too glad I don't live in CA.
I know in CA. they have pollution but come on ,wrong color hose ,MSD box ,intake .
As long as this stuff meets EPA emissions testing ,leave them alone.
I am really glad we,they are not that strict around here ,YET.

Alot of aftermarket/performance stuff you buy comes with CARB. compliance stickers to put on the vehicle. I don't see how half that stuff is illegal, just glad I don't live in CA!

here is a oldie but goodie: amount of tint on your windshield, front side glasses and rear glass. they have a handheld tool that can measure tint percentage, you say you put 35% on (legal limit in most states) yet they scan you at lower- forgot about the factory tint? your car can be impounded or an inspection ticket can be written- either way , cost you buck$

People with the money to buy Corvettes, Ferraris, etc., and the new car companies who sell them have a lot more legal pull than 20-something car fans.

Plus, the industry keeps a close eye on legislation and acts to prevent the stuff they don't like from being passed.

This is another Kali law designed to harass those who will "challenge authority" in any way, even though many aren't "street racers."

It's also a lot harder to stop a real street race or do an investigation on street racing than it is to spot stickers, large mufflers and issue inspection citations. Cheaper, too.

Check out Kali gun laws sometime. No effect on crime. Big effect on legal gun owners.

Mechanicaldj and Yvan are right: keep it low profile and you prevent a lot of this crap from biting you.

Yeah but who is more likely to go out and street race all the time?

a old guy with a Ferrari or some punk kid with a Honda civic that has a huge exhaust tip and slammed?

I can see where the police are coming from cause they have hundreds of deaths a year from street racing... but to pull some one over cause there car is modified and doesn't look stock?? that is just BS and there are much better ways to stop street racing.

All goes back to driving "rights" versus driving "privileges."

Under normal circumstances, the existence of these laws would be determined unconstitutional. The assertion that because these items CAN be used to commit a crime (in this case, street racing), then owning them MUST be a crime wouldn't hold true for virtually anything BUT a car.

The state will always maintain that because there are alternatives to driving, and, as a direct result an alternative to using these products, they have the legal/constitutional right to restrict pretty much anything they feel like.

It's basically the same thinking that prompts most insurance companies to charge a higher insurance premium for a coupe than for an identical model in a 4-door.

The insurance company will argue "statistically, the coupe is purchased by a younger driver than the sedan. Younger drivers are more prone to have accidents through either error or deliberate actions (speeding) and, as such, it's only logical that we should charge all drivers more for that car, even if you are 55 years of age."

Basically, it's whatever they say it is. So, yeah, the "you have a blue hose instead of a black one" law ends up being upheld because the state will simply say there is no constitutional right to a state granted privilege.

california sucks big hairy nuts. and i like how right from the start they say "vehicles modified for street racing".... They have no proof that those modifications aren't intended for legal racing. Just another way for the legal system to victimize people who can't afford to fight it. Even the CARB sticker is just an indirect form of taxation... since big companies are the only ones that can pay the exorbitant fees for testing and approval, the only parts you can buy that are CARB legal are way more expensive than comparative parts most times. In any logical person's opinion, it should be enough to go to an inspection station, pass a sniffer test, and be done with it. If the modifications are a safety risk (cut springs, fuel leaks, etc) than fail them... other than that its just an excuse to pick on kids with a hobby. I hate being grouped in with street racers just because i rock a modified 4 cylinder.... if i was a 50 year old in a modified 67 Camaro they wouldn't give me any shit, but because its not, its a street racing vehicle.

They want to stop street racing, then stop street racing, don't pick on people who could very well be law abiding citizens modifying their car for their own enjoyment or for legal racing.
