Just got the festy~! although 2 things I noticed that were kinda odd, check engine light comes on BUT its only after you have driven it for about 5 or so minutes, and the temp gauge seems to always be on cold (assuming its not working) any idea what the check engine could be? and how hard is it to fix the temp gauge? thanks for any info!

Probably a tstat replacement is in order. Does the needle move at all? There is a sticky called for those with barely an heat. You want a two stage tstat. Murray makes one. O'reillys sells it. The number is in that thread I think. I've posted it somewhere.youtube.com/neanderpaul 88 festiva LX w/BP G25 MR 5 speed waiting for wiring- 93 Festiva GL auto w/ air, waiting for B6t/G4A-HL - 98 Nissan Quest - 02 Mazda protege 5 wife's DD

He was probably looking for an OBDII plug. Most cars didn't get that until 96 and later. Ours are OBDI so you have to jump out connectors in the STI plug and then count how many times the CE light flashes.
Here's a link to a thread that helps explain the procedure.

Great find! Got it in plenty of time to make it to Westiva 2011. Kalispell to the meet location is only about 7 hours. We'd love to see you thereIan

Well apparently the 2 were related, I thought the radiator might be low on fluid making it get hot, and we couldn't tell because of the temp gauge so we looked and it was soooo out of fluid, so we filled it up and I drove it all day and no light! so that was good, got alot of armor all, cleaned and vaccumed, now its time to fix the dent in the quarter panel!
