  • cheap rims and problems...

so i found these wheels that are festiva lug pattern, i think they would be sweet

    cl link

and the problem... why do people expect to get tons of money for the 1.3 factory motors....maybe its just me but i feel that 500 bucks for a 1.3 is a little high, 250 for the transmission might be a little out of the range... and 100 for a harness? is it me or are the really worth that?

That's CRAZY on the motor considering you can rebuild one for ~$350 (or less). That's kind of an exorbitant amount on the harness too when you can find a parts car for that much or less. The transmission is somewhat on par (with our yards) depending on where you get it and it's condition.

I got a good one for ya, I went to yard a month or so ago to see about getting some Aspire springs. A friend of mine used to work the counter there so I got 90% of the swap stuff for $65 but I never got the springs. I figured I'd go back to the yard and see if I couldn't pick them up for a fairly reasonable price. You can imagine the look on my face when the guy behind the counter said "$45 a corner". I said "really? that's $180 dude. I can get a brand new set of sport springs for $185". Now I know why that yard doesn't see a lot of traffic

ok, i was hoping it wasnt just me...lol, thats crazy tho...i need to get in good with people at the yards here....

on another note, there is a un touched egt in a yard there in tulsa with 5 speed, im positive the engine transmission and harness wouldnt be near the price dude wanted for the festiva engine

Around here if you don't have a personal contact at a yard 4 cyl's generally go for $350 and up.
As for rebuilding one for less than $350, that isn't a full on correct rebuild.
Call a machine shop and ask how much for block machining and a full valve job on a complete rebuild.
Full reman engines (1.3L) go for $1100-$1500 These are engines that are hopefully done completely and correctly.

^^ I do all of my own work such as hot tanking and I have a valve grinder and other needed tools and equipment. The only work I farm out is decking because my mill isn't up and running yet and I get a cut rate at the machine shop because I take the guy so much work

That $350 was for parts since many people on here prefer to do their own labor.

So as far as it being a correct build I can reference multiple motors I've built, both street and race, that are currently in operation.

you can buy a crate engine for $1600.00 if you plan on spending that much.

OK, I will give you the fact that you have a machine shop, I have most of equipment as well, what I don't have I have access to freely use, but I would be willing to bet that very few people on here have anything beyond basic hand tools.
Not saying yours are not correct but people who do not have the knowledge to do the valve job and/or machine work let alone have the tooling will never be able to do it for the same amount those with the equipment can.
You know as well as I do that a GOOD valve job can easily eat up $150-$200.
Around here bore and hone a 4cyl runs $60 and up.
Crankshaft polish starts at around $45.
Hot tank all parts for a 4cyl is usually around $75 and up, more if you want the head ran through the cold tank as well.
Machine work gets expensive quick if you can't do it yourself.

A while ago I put an ad here for a complete, running 1.3 FI engine for free. Nobody showed any interest. Ended parting it out.

True, but the machine shop isn't the be all, end all. People can do more on their own than they think if they do a little research and reading. There are things that only the machine shop can do such as boring and align honing because the equipment costs are phenomenal. And for those things I gladly take it to my guy. But there's a ton of stuff that people can do in their own shop with some research and a few simple tools purchased inexpensively at the local parts store.

Check out Skeeter's Keeper's B6 rebuild thread for a great example of this. I've seen many motors (from 4 cylinders to big blocks) built doing basically the same things he did and the motors provided years of dependable, trouble free service.
