  • Geo Metro?

Is there an unspoken hatred for this car? I know I hate it, I've seen some other hate on the forums. I'm just wondering if there are any other who feel that way?

I think the body style is ugly but with a swift gti swap they are peppy little cars.

I always kinda liked 'em, but I only had second hand experience with them. Never owned one, but I rode in one a bunch and drove one maybe twice.

We had one a couple years back and it was a good car. 5 speed or auto couldn't touch a Festiva but they cruised along ok except for hills.

Ex-wife and I once owned an 89 Festy LX and a 90 Metro LSi at the same time. I preferred the Festy; the Metro seemed less substantial somehow. She preferred the Metro tho.

festyxfi would defend the vehicle in this thread. Nothing wrong with metros, I'd take a girlie convertible metro for the right price. Since i dont live back east, I cant comment on how long they last in corrosive environments. There are a lot on the road still in california, and the owners with decent examples wont sell them, just like festivas. Since ive never owned one i haven't done research to see if there are sweet oem swaps like our mazda cars enjoy. If you do seaeches for swaps its only hardcore hayabusas and turbo stuff. Nothing R&R AFAIK

i had one a five speed & ac it got about 48 mpg(3 cylinder suzuki i believe) it was fun to drive but my buddys had a geo storm gsi engine in his appx 140 hp & it was crazy, he took the 12 inch tires off of his hardtop & put the 13 inch on it off of a convertible, crazy i dont know how the tranny stood up to his abuse with the descent clutch in it. we used to go down interstate 40 cruising about 60 then try to race anyone in a honda or a camaro & they would always laugh----------at first!!!!!!!!!

I had a 93 geo storm gsi that had the 1.8 dohc which was the only year they done that engine setup and it was a pretty fast car for what it was. I though about that engine in a festiva but finding a 1.8 is kinda hard. most are 1.6's.

I don't hate Metros. I rather like them. However, the general consensus is that they're not as robust as Festivas, and with their lower roofline (which helps them get slightly better mpgs due to a smaller frontal area), they probably don't have quite as much room inside. Also as noted, they tend to rot out around the front control arm mounting points.

I may check one out someday, but it would be another car from another maker to learn about. I'd rather stick with Festivas, Aspires and Rios, or other older Mazdas.
