  • I just got great gas mileage!

    Hey all,

I just wanted to let everyone know......That I just got 50.9mpg on my last tank of gas! (61.13mpg if you use imperial gallons, lol)

I AM SO HAPPY ABOUT THIS THAT I THOUGHT I WOULD SHARE!

wow, thats great! how much psi are you running in your tires? what was your avg speed? have you done anything to the engine? ie. retard timing, running a/c.. if you have a 5spd, what rpm do you shift at? what is your idle set at? just curious.... i just got 39.7 mpg on my last tank, but i have some minor mods...

-Escort GT 91 donor car with BP, G5M-R tranny to be dropped in the little guy...
        -Aspire brake swap COMPLETE!

Totally stock, 5spd, no A/C, 45psi in the tires (they say 44 max so 45 is fine). I drove partly at 90kmh (55mph) and mostly at 80kmh (50mph). No special shifting, but I do drive very nicely most of the time. No quick starts and stops, etc.

There is no secret, just drive the way that everyone should, lol. :p

thats kind of what I expected.. i just recently dropped my idle down to 600 and that seemed to help over the ~850 i had before.. plus I put in neutral whenever i am not on the gas and slowing... i do alot of city driving though and not too much hwy..

            keep up the good work!

Way to go! 50-55 mph seems to be that magic number to hit that other magic number of over 50 mpg. :thumbright:

If your Festiva is 5spd, you should simply turn the car off, and if not, just keep it in gear!

If you put it in neutral, you will be using gas as your car will think that it is idling and will need gas to remain running. If you gear down, your car will not use any gas, as the wheels will be turning the engine, and the car will say "hey, I dont need to use gas, as I am already running".

Dont know if that makes sense, but basically, if you have a 5spd here are your options again rated from BEST to WORST.

                1. Turn the car off when you dont need to use any gas (coasting, sitting, etc).

                2. Gear down when slowing down, or stay in high gear when coasting.

                3. Shift into neutral, this will use more gas than simply driving normally, but some people like buying gas, LOL........:p

Exactly! I will first do a kamback, and then try that alternator delete..... But 50.8mpg is not bad for stock!
