Something funny and kinda related. I just "finished" switching to ATT recently. The ATT branded GoPhone I had always just told me signal strength and showed ATT as the carrier obviously.

When I switched to an LG GD880 I see that most(99% really) of my coverage is the Cingular Genesis network. It's just funny that I guess they don't think anyone will notice as long as they "show you" you're on ATT. If I'm reading this correctly, my service is the original digital network from 2002. Oh yeah.

So, maybe we are backward enough here to use this thing in some places?
Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

That's not ancient. Back in the 70's, my dad had a 74 AMC Hornet as a company vehicle and it had a mobile phone it that looked similar to this one:
                  Rick
                  1993 Ford Festiva
1986 AMC Eagle Wagon 4.2L/4.0L head, AW4,NP242, Chrysler 8.25" rear. SOLD

OK, you old phone hackers, here's one for you ...

Why is there seemingly no pattern to the "original" area codes, i.e. those with 0 or 1 for the middle digit. Why is NYC 212, yet, say MIA is 305, and HI/HON 808?

It turns out there *IS* a real pattern. It was more than just crazy engineers at AT&T Bell labs throwing darts in the dark. What is it & why? If you stare at the phone picture above, it might come to you.
