What is the conventional wisdom on exhaust pipe size and muffler options. I have 1300 in the Aspire for now. I will be dropping in a 1600 from a 1989 Mecury Tracer. I want to do the Exhaust sytem now and just cut and splice when I drop in the 1600. I have an automatic trasmission in this Aspire.

I'd say that the stock exhaust won't kill your MPG's or your performance, but to enlarge the exhaust to 2" may help you. I'd use a turbo muffler at the end, and put a nice tip on it. Best not to get an exhaust with "kinks" in the bends, but go with pre-bent sections if you plan to make your own.
