  • whats an escort gt worth?

Found an escort gt with 120k on it. Clutch is out and 3rd and 4th gears grind. Guy said he thinks 350 is fair. What can I do about a trans. Do I need to find a capri trans and axles?

You can run the BP with the stock trans as long as you have a decent clutch and aren't hard on it (ie. no drag launches, hard shifting). I've done it in a couple of cars, and I'm about to do it again lol.
    No festiva for me ATM...

you can use the EGT transmission (i have one in mine from a 91, a g5mr with 4.10's) and adapt to a hydraulic clutch.

you can easily find them around for cheap since they came in several different cars, however you will still require the capri or 323gt axles to mate it to your hubs.

350 isnt too bad, a little on the high side imo but im a cheap prick so id work him down to 250 since your really only going to use the engine unless you wanna try to swap over the brakes as well

Just for reference I read on here somewhere that you can also use Kia Rio axles, they fit the G series, dont have the intermediate shaft so toque steer might be an issue, but you got the strength minus $100 for the intermediate shaft. Do more research on it though, dont take my word for it.

So the escort clutch has no engagement. No engine rpm change when releasing the clutch. Does it need to be bled? Slave cylinder bad?

ive had several EGT slaves go to crap over the years, try bleeding it first, if that doesnt work replace the slave.

Did they have the same problem? I can get it in any gear while running

no, quite the opposite in fact. when a slave goes bad you wont be able to get it in/out of gear while the engine is running unless you can match rpm's to your gear selection as i had to when my first slave went bad on a road trip.

if it will go in and out but you have no response at the axles my best bet is that the shift forks themselves in the trans are messed up or that your diff has broken and isnt transmitting any power to the wheels at all.

probably gonna have to replace the trans. thankfully the hydro trans are super cheap and easy to swap in/out. my last EGT i paid 100$ for lasted me for 7 years before i got T-boned by a full size dodge truck. i replaced one trans in it for similar reasons like yours and other than that and a set of struts never had to touch it for more than oil changes.

if you dont gut the car for a festiva transplant, just get a new trans (i pick up engines/trans here in mn for 100$ if i keep an eye out from time to time) and enjoy a cheap car that will last until it rots out from under you.

i can see the clutch linkage moving fine...my guess is the clutch is gone so far that it is just slipping. I have never had it where the clutch is slipping and you cant hear it but it could be a first. I am starting on the removal process this weekend.
