  • 1993 Ford Festiva

Hello, I am new to this forum and new to the Ford Festiva as well, I am purchasing a Festiva from a co-worker for $50! and from what he has told me about it it sounds like a problem with the inertia switch or the fuel pump. He says that it would run when it wanted to so he just stopped driving it. Now it needs a new battery and some cleaning up but it isnt in bad condition at all. The button on the inertia switch is in the down position but it will not move if you try to push it, is this the way it is supposed to be or should it move freely if you push on it? All info will be greatly appreciated, and if anyone has a wiring schematic for the fuel system that would be very appreciated as well.

That's cool! Congrats on the good deal. Welcome to the site and we will be more than happy to help. Also add your location so we can see if there is any close help to you if you should need a helping hand.

The inertia switch is good, it will only be up when it has been activated. I would start with some basics like figuring out some symptoms when you get it home. Then we can steer you in the right direction to getting it diagnosed and repaired without replacing to many parts and spending a bunch of money.

I'm guessing the fuel pump is bad, but it could well be something simple like the fuel filter. Does it turn over?

Sounds great, I have not had a chance to really mess with it, it will need a battery before I can try to crank it and really start trying to diagnose the issue. Thanks for the replies.

            Welcome!

Pics will be needed, of course.

First, you'll want to see what it does and if it is getting spark and fuel. All in good time.

You should splurge and buy a $10 set of spark plugs to be safe.

Will do, I will be bringing it home in about a week or so. will post some pics soon. Im going to do some junk yard snooping and see if the locals have some Festiva and Escort parts worth going through. It could use a good set of front bucket seats, im thinking Escort Gt seats would be nice, got to get her running first :-)

Mazda Protege seats are a good choice and very comfortable. Good luck with the hunt.

Welcome! Look for the Protege cupholder console too--little door that pops open to reveal a cubby, and you pull out the cupholders. I have the Escort seats and find them a little hard for long-distance driving, so then I use a cushion. Compare the Protege and Escort seats. We're talking early 1990s for all this stuff.
