  • Repair bad VAF's?

I just had my vaf go bad, swapped in the one from my son's Festy and all was well. We hit the boneyard and bought a couple more and Festy is running fine again. My question is has anyone repaired defective vaf's, or researched what part actually fails. If we fix them it would seem more cost effective than buying used ones with more miles on them my original. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Bill

I've read about people cleaning the meter contact points up by dousing the internals with rubbing alcohol or vodka. Won't help if the contact board wears through or breaks, though. Repairing broken contacts on the back side of connector by soldering is a pretty straight forward fix. I know a few members have done it before. As far as the fuel pump switch goes the worst thing that could happen is a switch leg could break off. If the spring holding the flapper closed breaks, I'd imagine it would be replaceable but I haven't seen any spec for the proper tension. While you can spend $80 on a remanufactured one, you could certainly test and Frankenstein together several for the same cost I'm sure.
