  • Crossmember question.

As most know I am building a 89L that was previously automatic. I am using the auto crossmember and having troubles getting the shift linkage to hook up right. It comes so close but hits the crossmember. I have tried 3 diffrent times to hook up the shifter and it just wont clear the crossmember. Does this have something to do with it being a 89 auto crossmember or something. The only solution I can come up with is either cutting the member or swapping it out and putting a manual one in. Any ideas.

What trans are you using? With an F or G series you might be able to play with the location of the mounts to get to clear, but if you're using an E series and stock mounts you will need a manual crossmember to use the manual trans. Using the auto crossmember with a manual trans will sit the trans a little crooked anyway.
    No festiva for me ATM...

Im using the E series. I guess I will have to swap the crossmember then.

Im not. im going to throw a jack under the engine and swap out crossmembers. I just wish I would have known this before in dropped the engine in the car. My common sense wasnt working the day i installed the engine.
