  • turbo setup for Ford Aspire

Has anyone investigated turbocharging one of these little nugets, meaning the 1.3 Mazda engine? How about the 1987-1989 Mercury Tracer 1.6 Maxda engine?

what MAF are you using on your car Tim? and how did you go about mounting your turbo (adapter plate, re-welded flange)?

Thanks for the chiding. There is some neat stuff out there. I being a little older than the rest of you admire your ingenuity. If some of you are not aerospace engineers you have missed your calling.

Will someone who is "into this" email me in private and give me a "ball park" figure on the cost involve. I have a Turbo Volvo that I have "tinkered with".

That looks like a stock 3rd gen escort maf/air filter housing. Just from the little bit I can see. Huge thing. Why'd you keep the blimp instead of using a filter adapter and some couplings?
Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

You are correct, it is a 3rd gen housing that has the maf removed and has the maf housing shortened. Basically it's just an air filter box. I choose this setup because it will flow more air than the crappy aspire box and the escort intake tube is run right down to the compressor inlet.

The maf I am using is the stock aspire maf plumbed midway between the ic and the throttle body with the iat relocated to the throttle body inlet.

The manifold is a shortened and modified aspire tubular one with a flange I made and welded to it. I also added an exhaust temp probe at the collector and relocated the o2 to the down pipe.
