  • Your thoughts on these springs & shocks?

Springs: Blox Lowering Springs 92-95 Civic / Del Sol EG $160 + shipping
Shocks: KYB GR-2 $260 ($115 of this is shipping)

I can't source either from Australia so this will all ship out from the states. I spoke to a local suspension store the other day and he quoted $1360 for comparable products, so clearly I can source my own parts 60-70% less than that price even after shipping costs.

It's a daily driver, I'm running a B3 for now but eventually will swap a BPT. I'm after a firmer ride than I have currently (aspire swapped springs/shocks) but not crazy stiff. I also have the front sway upside down so I'm a little worried dropping 2-2.75" from stock height could present problems, I'll do some measurements on that soon.

Is this a good combination or are the better options? I recall Festyboy suggesting these springs once in the past as one option to consider.

Hey thanks for the suggestion Grey Vw. I didn't know coilovers could be obtained so cheap. Those Rokkor's look the goods to me, I'll read through that 7 page thread and see what more I can discover including whether these may be too stiff or not. Considering the shipping costs it may end up being cheaper buying coilovers than traditional springs & struts! Very happy with that

Also I forgot to mention, after I did the aspire swap I fitted 195/50 tires and +43 offset wheels. Do you know if I'd have any perch clearance issues with these? Running current aspire springs/struts, there isn't much clearance but it only rubs going over speed bumps too fast.

I think I just got my answer: "If your wheel offset or ET is greater than 35mm, then you must use conical shaped wheel spacers on the front, or risk damage to the inside of your tires."

I don't have any experience with them but I will be ordering them in a day or two:p I don't think you will have clearance issues since there is no big perch and that is what rubs. If you are barely rubbing now you shouldn't have a problem.

Yeah I was just thinking that after putting the pic up, there is no big pirch on the coilovers so fingers X i should be safe... I'm thinking the 380/300 is probably too stiff for me as a daily driver but the 320/285 racelands may be a compromise.

I can also get some aspire King springs (lows not super lows) locally for a fair price, which drop the car 1.2 - 1.35 inches (30-35mm) but I'm guessing these will only drop the car slightly below stock level since they are for the heavier aspire. Probably not worth it.

Coilovers mentioned above are good but I'm trying to avoid anything where I have to mess around too much, they are extremely fussy about that kind of thing here.

Yeah our dollar had been hovering around $1.05 - $1.10 USD for months it nose dived 15% in 2 days recently. Back up to $0.99 today.

I just spoke to the IT Manager at King Springs about whether Super Lows were available for an Aspire (WB Festiva), unfortunately not. They would be about perfect for our cars I think, normally super lows are probably too low but the aspire springs would lift it 1" putting it between lows and super lows, perfect! Oh well back to the drawing board.

This is probably a stupid question, but I searched and still don't understand. What's the difference between "Coilovers" and the normal strut/spring setup?

Coilover suspension is usually used for racing or high performance and have a variable height and spring rate.

Have you looked into pedders suspension?
