Ok, It happened again. 3rd time. In 7-11 parking lot no less. In walking distance to home luckily. I walked home, got a rubber hammer and a 1999 30 amp fues to jam in as a jumper. I think I put it the right one. Its a side ward plug like the fan one. I turned the key and listened. Nothing. Hit it with a hammer a few times too.

    Fuel pump?

If so, Which ones are not super loud? I have a holley red pump in my 69 and its annoying. I heard you mention a 255 is noisy.
    thanks

The fuel pump wont prime by just turning the key on, you have to turn the engine over. When you do that you wont hear it because of the noise of the engine trying to crank. Simply just turn the key to the on position, pop the hood, pull the intake pipe off the VAF and press the flap in. YOU should hear the pump kick on. If it doesnt then the relay or the pump is bad.

You can also pull it down out from under the dash, pop the cover off the top, turn key on and squeeze the contact to make connection and listen for the pump to run without starting the car. I have an extra one that I keep around for this specific reason. When you do it you should hear the fuel being pumped back thru the return.

I went back over an hour later and it started right up. I then drove it home. I parked it and then jumped the contection and turned the ignition forward and listened. I heard the pump.

Maybe it does not have to crank over to hear it.

          thanks

if you jumper the test plug, you do not have to crank the engine BUT the key must be in the on position. the pump will not prime before cranking without the plug jumpered.

Ok, great sounds like its time to order a pump. What is the stock size. Do I go190 or 255?. 255's seem to be readly available an cheaper but is it really necessary?
